WordPress offers a pretty generous 3 GB of space. However, free users don’t have access to Google Analytics, nor can they customize their design much. They’re also restricted to a URL with “wordpress.com” appended to the end, and can’t take advantage of WordPress’s eCommerce features.

Creating new WordPress site with existing domain

[This thread is closed.] I seem to be in a little confusion, and I am not too sure how to go about this. I have a client who has a website domain…

wordpress.org

Creating new WordPress site with existing domain

Use a sub-domain from the client’s present domain pointed at Bluehost or whoever you chose to host the new site with.

Nothing to it. GoDaddy is perfect for handling the domain name. Bluehost will give you the IP for the sub’s A record.

Build your WordPress site and when you are done go in and change the site addresses in WordPress… that will break the site then but once you swap in the Bluehost IP to the new WordPress site it will run again. Takes about 5 minutes or less to propagate with GoDaddy’s DNS which runs DNS Notify.

One Caveat… if the domain name if being forwarded to the present Wix site (quite common) you’ll need to write down the Wix site address just in case you need to reforward the site if things go wrong. Just keep good notes of the IPs and any forwarded addresses.
