OluKai: Ocean Mother

youtu.be/-mhWsAwOXqI

Here's a woman who's saying that the deepest ocean makes her feel like in the womb. The first video I saw her in was 'Lessons from Jeju | Freediving and Motherhood with Kimi Werner' about a year ago. I presumably assumed that she was Korean American but she's actually Hawaiian. Nontheless, she just so naturally mingled into these typical Korean Haenyeos while boarding their packed small boat, diving into the deep water of Jeju together, prepping their harvest from the sea ... and joining their dinner table. Her warm eyes were so deeply and widely open to Haenyeos and absorbing their stories of motherhood. By the time this video was filmed, she was 6 months pregnant and now she has an adorable toddler in her home in Hawaii. Her youtube channel, which had only small numbers of subscribers a year back, now has grown so much. Also her life seems to have come a long, long way. Beautiful.

The new video 'Ocean Mother' was posted on Mother's day. The picture of the deep, dark ocean rumbling, surging and subsiding..., that alone got me in awe but her narative about free falling into the ocean strongly made me feel eager to know what flying in the ocean feels like. Would it be like flying above my home town in my little dreams? And what about feeling like coming back to mother's womb and curling up in there...  I can only imagine... But because my imagination tends to make everything more intense and powerfully attracting... I might conceive more beautiful, warmer and more womb-like feeling in my mind through her video than I actually would do if I were deep in the ocean.
