Weltschmerz

Weltschmerz is actually, it's a feeling that's actually like a melancholy or sadness that you have, but that you can't necessarily apply to your current private life. you don't see the root cause as because you have too little money, or because you don't have an apartment, or because you find that you look crappy, that it doesn't look good or something, but rather you have a fundamental feeling of sadness and melancholy.

Weltschmerz actually means that you don't have one single or specific reason to be sad, rather simply carrying the whole weight of the world on your shoulders.

there's actually no real reason, you simply feel sad.

Sheldon's explanation on the big bang (season 3, episode 11) :
the Germans have a term for what you're feeling.
Weltschmerz,
it means the depression that arises from comparing the world as it is to a hypothetical, idealized world.
...
the Germans have always been a comforting people. 😂

I love seeing those serious "German"-look on their faces from some 'Easy German' episodes. Look at the face, how sincerely they're pondering the question! Especially the person who seems to listen to their friend, they look dead serious and I bet they're preparing their own answer without really listening to their friends 😂. But, actually, their such genuine sincerity sometimes comforts me for some reason, as Sheldon said. 🙂
