Mit englischen Ausdrücken kann man kaum die Aktualität deutscher Ausdrücke belegen.
Ich finde allerdings auch nicht, dass "etwas zu schätzen wissen" sonderlich gestelzt oder gar altmodisch wäre, es ist nur vielleicht nicht gerade Umgangssprache unter Jugendlichen.
How do you say "I appreciate it" in German?
“Thank you, I appreciate it”. It’s common in English, but you can’t translate it into German.
A direct translation would be: “Danke, ich schätze es”. Or “Danke. Das weiß ich zu schätzen.” Or: “Danke. Ich weiß das/es zu schätzen.” But of course nobody uses that. Except in very formal situations:
“Wir haben Ihr Zimmer zu einer Suite upgegraded.« (We upgraded your room to a suite, Sir«) – »Danke, dass weiß ich zu schätzen.« (Thank you, I appreciate it.«) So most of the time you don’t want to use expressions like that because they sound stiff.

- Any appreciative adjective will do.
Very often Germans use an elliptical form of expressions like that (meaning they eliminate unnecessary words).
- Example: Danke. Finde/find’ ich … super/toll/klasse/riesig/prima, großartig.
- Danke. Echt/wirklich/total/absolut … … super/toll/klasse/riesig/prima, großartig.
- Example: Danke. Echt super! Danke. Super/toll/klasse/riesig/prima, großartig (the ultimate reduction).
- Example: Danke – super!
That's a difficult one - and the translators of American movies for the German dubbed version always get it wrong. “to appreciate” in German would be “etwas schätzen” or “zu schätzen wissen”. However, if it's not the vwrb in its normal use but rather the fossilized formula for thanking somebody, this translation becomes completely strange snd unidiomatic. In these situations, in German you'd go for a completely different formula like “Danke, das war nett von Dir!” or “Darüber habe ich mich gefreut.” *ich weiß Deine Hilfe zu schätzen. Das war nett, dass Du mir geholfen hast! Danke für Deine Hilfe!
