The way it works is that if you buy the audiobook with a credit, you can then buy the ebook with cash and they'll connect. You don't get a discount that way.
If you buy the ebook first, you're then eligible for a discount on the audiobook if you pay cash. You can also use a credit instead and they'll still connect just fine.
As long as you have the whispersync-enabled ebook and the whispersyncenabled audiobook in your library, no matter how you got them, they'll sync up just fine.
